Tips On Moving Fragile Items

Posted on

Whether you're doing it yourself or you have hired movers for the job, moving can be a stressful experience. With so much going on, it's hard to remember some of the things you need to keep track of while moving. One of the most important things you should do while moving, however, is to always make sure that your fragile items are being moved properly. One simple drop can wind up destroying your favorite dish set. Luckily, there are some steps you can take to avoid breaking fragile items.

Moving Electronics

While the majority of electronic appliances and amenities are quite resilient, there are always a few items that have some key pieces that can be easily broken during transport. The best way to ensure that your electronic items will be safely moved in one piece is to keep all of the original packaging. It is best to avoid packing paper while using electronics and soften their carry with reusable items such as towels and small blankets.

Moving Dishes

Perhaps the most feared item to move is dishes. Packing dishes is a bit time consuming, but it's better to thoroughly pack them rather than haphazardly pack them in haste. It is imperative that you buy dish boxes when moving your dishes. Dishes are a little different than regular cardboard boxes and have thicker sides and a much more resilient bottom. Feel free to be a bit liberal with the packing paper when it comes to moving dishes. This provides your dishes with enough support so that they do not break during transport.

Mirrors

Mirrors can be a difficult item to pack due to their irregular size. Make sure that you purchase boxes that can hold your mirrors. Don't worry if they're too big, you can pad out the majority of the empty space with packing paper. Make sure that you use extra packing paper on the top and bottom of the mirror boxes. It is important that your mirror is given a tight fit, so, much like with dishes, feel free to be liberal with the packing paper. Mirrors should also be placed tightly and firmly somewhere in the moving van so it doesn't move to and fro; excess jostling can wind up damaging the mirror.

Moving isn't the most fun experience for most people, and the prospect of damaging valuable items is quite nerve wrecking. Luckily, there are steps you can take to prevent this from happening. Contact a company like Precisely Right Moving for more tips and information.
