Tips And Tricks For Moving Your Household Goods

Posted on

If you are moving, there are some simple tips and tricks you can do to make it easier for you to find your items after they are packed and to keep them safe during transport and storage. The information provided here will help you to have a much easier time packing, securing, moving and finding your belongings.

Use the correct supplies

When you are packing your belongings, it will go much better if you put effort into using the right packing supplies. Your boxes should all be the same size and shape. They should be sturdy and it's also helpful if they have handles in the sides, but this is not necessary.

Clear plastic bins of the same shape and size can be used for miscellaneous items that will be hard to categorize or find if you put them into regular boxes. Plastic bins are also a good choice for anything that needs protection from the elements, such as fragile fabric that may get damaged by moths.

Pack smart

The way you pack each box will determine how secure your items are and how easy the box will be for you to find if you need to get something out of it. The contents of each box should be listed on a paper and given a number so you can easily identify them when you are looking for something.

The boxes should be labeled with the room they came out of to make it easier to keep associated contents near one another. When moving into your new place, this will be helpful since you will take an entire group of boxes to one room, then move on to the next and so on.

When you pack fragile items, wrap them well in bubble wrap, mark the box for identification, label it as fragile and tape a clear picture of the fragile items on the box. Many times people don't pay the word "fragile" the special attention it deserves. However, when they see a picture of breakable glasses taped to the box, they will make it a point to handle it with care.

Protect electronics

All electronics should have the cords taped to the sides of the component or appliance so the cords don't get pulled on or tripped over. Remove the batteries from all your battery operated items so they don't get ruined from corrosion.

Store your items systematically

Put large items to the back of the storage unit. If you have any lightweight bags then you can set them on top of your larger appliances. Create a wall of boxes on both sides of the unit and along the back, in front of the large items. Add aisles of boxes along the center and stack them with the heaviest on the bottom and the lightest on the top.

By following the advice provided in this article you can pack your stuff in a way that keeps everything safe and allows you to find what you need quickly and without difficulty.
